Roeland Verhallen

Roeland Verhallen (1989) is autodidact fotograaf en promovendus aan de Universiteit van Cambridge. Door zijn onderzoek naar visuele perceptie – het hoe en wat van het menselijk zien – te combineren met zijn fotografie, probeert hij fotoseries te vormen die de basisregels van het observeren in twijfel trekken. Hoe zien we diepte en contrast? Wat valt op bij de eerste keer kijken naar een foto? Maar vooral: hoe kan hij mensen, door het vertellen van een verhaal, een nieuw inzicht geven in hoe zij dingen aanschouwen? In de galerie zijn werken te zien uit de serie Vision.

The guest artist in VERVERS gallery is Roeland Verhallen (1989), self-taught photographer and PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge. Through his study of visual perception,  -the how and what of human vision-, in combination with his photography, he tries to question the basic rules of observation. How do we see depth and contrast? What is striking at the first time we are looking at a picture?
